New partnership to explore modern coinage

Image

Thanks to the support of the Ronus Foundation, the Coin Cabinet is beginning to systematically digitize the modern coins of the Habsburgs. With Sigismund and Maximilian I, the coins of the first two rulers go online today, which were edited in a first step by Benedikt Prokisch.

These include Sigismund's guldiners, the first large silver coins of modern times, as well as rare show coins of Maximilian, but also small denominations such as zweier or pennies. The range of this update extends from the medieval kreuzer coinage of Sigismund in Meran to that of the Wiener Hausgenossen during the interregnum (1519/1522).
The collection paves the way for the continuation of the CNA (Corpus Nummorum Austriacorum) project and the creation of a new digital portal.
