Collection unlocked: Maria Theresa - almost 3000 coins online
Probably the world's most extensive collection of coins of Empress Maria Theresa from the Coin Cabinet Vienna can now be admired in its entirety at the IKMK.
The thaler is undoubtedly the most popular coinage of the regent and is known throughout the world as the Maria Theresa Thaler. In addition to this famous coin, however, there is an enormous variety of nominals issued during Maria Theresa's reign: a total of 98 different nominals were minted in 15 mints.
The holdings of Maria Theresa's coins in the Vienna Numismatic Collection comprise just under 3000 specimens (2882 of which are still looking for a coin sponsor).
The project to digitise this collection by Agnes Aspetsberger, MA, represents an important step in the development of the collection and has now been successfully completed after almost exactly two years.
